The answer is: Keturah

Gen 25:1

Ah, Keturah! The lesser-known second wife of Abraham! Her story may not receive as much attention as Sarah, but she plays a significant role in the unfolding narrative of Abraham's legacy. After the death of Sarah, Abraham married Keturah, which marked a new chapter in his life, rich in hope and renewal.

In Genesis 25:1, we see Abraham taking Keturah as his wife, and that seemingly simple verse conceals quite a bit. Keturah bore him several children, including Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. These names may tickle the history buff in us! Notice the name "Midian"—this is particularly interesting because the Midianites became prominent neighbors and, at times, adversaries to the Israelites. In fact, Moses would later find refuge among the Midianites and even marry one!

You might find it intriguing that Keturah's name means "incense" in Hebrew, hinting at something sweet or valuable. Not just a companion, she was a matriarch, bearing sons who propagated Abraham's line and became princes of their own people. These connections often remind us that families intermingle and influence larger narratives throughout the Biblical text, often leading us toward themes of unity, diversity, and of God blessing different nations and peoples.

So, while Keturah may not be as celebrated as Sarah, her contribution to Abraham’s legacy and the tapestry of biblical history is undoubtedly significant!
